Story of Natalia from Kazakhstan

Today we are publishing the materials of our coleslaws from the Eurasian Women’s Network on AIDS.

As part of the International Campaign to End Violence Against Women 2022, the Eurasian Women’s  Network on AIDS (EWNA) and the Women’s Harm Reduction Network International (WHRIN) are calling for an end to all forms of violence against women who use drugs.

Women who use drugs, including transgender and gender non-conforming people, are exposed to high levels and a wide range of physical and psychological harm due to the punitive prohibition of certain substances in the EECA region and worldwide. State stigmatization, criminalization and corruption are significant harms to health and safety and are barriers to critical harm reduction and protection from violence. Women who use drugs are 2-5 times more likely to experience gender-based violence than other women in society. This violence includes (but is not limited to) forced sterilization and abortion, rape, sexual harassment, loss of custody of a child, imprisonment for drug use and possession without intent to sell and other types of violations, stigmatization and discrimination.
